Basic Information
Address: 60 Valley Street Providence, RI 02903 / 50 Aborn Street Providence, RI 02903
Phone Number: (401) 632-0649
Web Site: http://www.thecubanrevolution.com/thecubanrevolution/Welcome.html
Description of Destination
Cuban Revolution is intended to resemble a 1960s "counter-culture" coffee house. The food, atmosphere, music, and decor is all intended to bring patrons back to the time when JFK was president, Marilyn Monroe was at her peak, and revolutionary Cuba was front page news.
The menu consists of mostly South American-inspired (what they call "Revolution Fusion") cuisine, though many of the items are familiar to most people. They have a large selection of appetizers (i.e. nachos, quesadillas, beans, soup, kabobs), as well as the typical wraps, sandwiches, burgers, that you would expect at any type of grille.
What is unique however, is the ability to create your own rice & beans bowl, as well as your own salad bowl. They let you choose from over 40 vegetables, meats, cheeses, nuts, etc. While the menu does not change for different meals throughout the day, they are open from 11AM to midnight, so you are free to eat any meal of the day there.
Located in the heart of Providence (especially the Aborn St. location), diners can certainly make a trip to the restaurant a full day trip.
Prices
The prices are more than reasonable here. You would be hard-pressed to find an item more than $15 (the average price for an appetizer, sandwich, wrap, or entree is around $7-10). All locations also offer 20 cent wings from 5-10PM.
The restaurant boasts a full bar as well that serves $3 drafts, $2 domestic beers, and $3 imported and craft beers seven days per week. Mixed drinks are also reasonable, at around $5-6 per drink.
Hours
Sunday:11am until midnight
Monday:11am until midnight
Tuesday:11am until midnight
Wednesday:11am until midnight
Thursday:11am until midnight
Friday:11am until midnight
Saturday:11am until midnight
Other Information
There is no dress code at the restaurant. The crowd changes depending on which time and day of the week it is. For example, while a quiet Monday afternoon may have businesspeople stopping in on their lunch break, a busy Thursday night will have predominantly college students from the Rhode Island area.
Reservations and all major credit cards are welcome. While the restaurant does not have its own parking lot, there are a number of side streets and meter spots usually available.

Barking Crab

Basic Information
Address: 151 Swinburne Row Newport, RI 02840
Phone Number: (401) 846-2722
Web Site: www.barkingcrab.com
Description of Destination
The Barking Crab is on a short list of the best seafood spots in the Newport area. Offering all the seafood you could ask for (i.e. calamari, crab cakes, lobster, shrimp, oysters, etc.) as well as classics like grilled chicken sandwiches and caesar salads, the Barking Crab is sure to appease any appetite. WIth a full bar of regional beers and inventive concoctions such as the "Adult Arnold Palmer", it certainly sets itself apart from surrounding eateries.
The decor inside is rather different. Rather than looking like the average restaurant, each section is designed to look like a dining room of a house. An interesting choice, though a more sea/boat-oriented look may have worked better.
It is located on the main drag of Newport and is surrounded by enough shops to keep even the biggest shopper busy for a full weekend. While this location is an offshoot of the very successful Boston restaurant, it certainly sticks to the fundamentals that make the Boston location so unique.
Prices
Everyone knows that seafood comes with a price. While most of the large ticket items (i.e. lobster) vary depending on the market price, a platter of seafood will run around $20. Even a simple appetizer, salad, chicken sandwich, or burger still costs about $10. You certainly get what you pay for however. The portions are enormous and the food is cooked to perfection.
They have $4 drink specials on Thursday and Sunday, but other than that, you will have to pay around $5 for a beer and $9 for a mixed drink.
Hours
Sunday: 11:30AM until 11:00PM
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 11:30AM until 11:00PM
Friday: 11:30AM until 11:00PM
Saturday: 11:30AM until 11:00PM
Other Information
The dress code is casual - anything goes. The restaurant attracts every crowd, from college students to familes to senior citizens. The busiest night is Saturday, however you get 15% off if you place a reservation beforehand.
Outside, they have a nice patio deck with live bands and dancing, along with a full service bar. There is a two hour parking lot attached to the building that provides plenty of parking. Inside the dining areas are four HDTVs, showing everything from sporting events to sitcoms.
